Description:

This hike is one of the premier wildflower destinations in the Cascades! They should be at their peak. Plus the fact that you are participating on the Eugene to Pacific Crest Trail exploration (E2C) - see the May Bulletin for details. The hike starts out through old growth forest and then opens up with views in the meadows. We will not hike all the way to the tower, but rather stop in the last meadow for lunch.
Participants need to make their own travel arrangements due to covid protocols - see website for the latest guidelines.

Trip Report

I felt very lucky! We had a couple of raindrops in the South Eugene parking lot and a few more on the road, but none once we hit the trail. Moreover, just 3 mountain bikers passed us, although more were arriving as we were departing. The flowers were at peak! It was a joy to be with 2 wildflower experts, Karen and Peter, who really enjoyed figuring out the few plants we were unsure of. The only mountain we saw due to low hanging clouds was Diamond Peak, but we lingered over a long lunch, enjoying conversations and the surrounding flowers and terrain. On the return, Joel spotted an E2C marker along the trail! Thanks to all, particularly the drivers, for sharing a great day.
