EAGLE CREEK TO HIGH BRIDGE

Description:

This is a lovely trail with lush growth & abundant waterfalls along the way. The trail will almost certainly be wet. There are several narrow sections along abrupt cliff edges with 200’ vertical drop-offs to the creek below – most of the cliff edge areas are accompanied by steel cables embedded along the inboard rock wall – grip these cables for safety. Many photo ops here. {I hiked this trail on Jan. 5 – you can get a video preview on my YouTube channel Buzzin’ Along.}

Trip Report

Five steadfast {but not real fast} hikers road a few miles more than the norm to enjoy one of the finest trails in the Columbia River Gorge. The Eagle Creek Trail doesn’t just meander gently up the grade, it quickly separates to several hundred feet above the creek via narrow sections of trail, with cliff edges on the right and rock walls and embedded cables for stability on the left. On the 3.3 miles to High Bridge, there were about 4 major waterfalls and many small ones, some of which we could walk behind for “Last Of The Mohicans” moments {Daniel Dy Lewis, etc.}. With the sun filtering thru the trees and abundant water flowing, the scenery was lovely. The adventure ended with coffee and snacks at a sweet little coffee house THIRSTY in Cascade Locks
