We have fun.  We travel Highway 58, stopping at Oakridge for coffee.  Upon arrival at Klamath Falls it's lunch at Applebees (paid).  After lunch, we go out to the State Line Road to see what is around and then we stop at the Klamath (lower) Interpretive Center.  At dusk, we return to K Falls for our lodging at The Best Western Olympic Inn(dinner at your cost).  It is an early rise to see the birds and then a complimentary breakfast.  We return to the motel about 10:30 for coffee and to check out.  Then we go for a hike down  on the river path.  We will have lunch (paid) before heading back - arrive Eugene by 6 pm.

Trip Report

Thirty Obsidians and guests had snowy bus travel both ways. When we arrived in Klamath Falls, it was very windy and cold, with just traces of old snow. We'd had our coffee break at McDonald's in Oakridge, and then lunch at Applebee's, before going out to find all the birds. Many were good at spotting and identifying the birds. Many got very good at identifying the eagles, hawks, and geese. Lots of geese and ducks as well. Everyone was so busy sighting the birds, that we never got to the intrepretive center. At dusk, we headed back into Klamath Falls for our lodging at the Best Western Olympic Inn. Everyone scattered for dinner, but found themselves in the lobby identifying mounted birds, while waiting for cookies to come out of the oven.

After a wonderful continental breakfast, all were on the bus at 8am, ready to head out to State Lane for more birding. There seemed to be a large number of pheasant and also groupings of cranes in the nearby fields. At 10:30, it was time to head back to the motel to check out and then go for the river walk. The nearby museum was closed. At noon, it was back to Applebee's for lunch, and then to leave for Eugene. It was even starting to snow in Eugene as we drove into town. A great trip was had by all!
