Trip Report

The forecast was for rain, 30% in the early am, turning to 80-90% by 11 am. Needless to say, we were motivated to reach the top of Eagles Rest before the heavy rain arrived. Our group kept a steady, moderately fast pace with this in mind. The trees were drippy with occasional light mist making it through to us. The trail was VERY WET and MUDDY, and SLIPPERY in places. Overall, we stayed dry all the way to Ash Swale Shelter. The trail from the shelter to the road was the worst--a good inch deep in slippery mud/muck with large puddles across the trail. From the road to the top of Eagles Rest we enjoyed wet, but good trail. On the summit we had limited views of Mt. June barely visible through swirling fog and wind. The group managed to slip and slide our way back to the trailhead with a rest at the shelter and NO falls! The forecasted heavy rain began as we loaded our packs into our three Subaru's for the ride back to Eugene.
