  • Start time: 6:00 PM

  • End date: 02/20/2026

  • End time: 8:30 PM

Description:

NOTE: I got an email about a change in the speaker due to a family emergency. From the Eugene Natural History Society: Our scheduled presenter, Leif Karlstrom, is unable to speak to the ENHS this coming Friday, February 20 because of a family emergency. Rather than cancel the program completely, emeritus board member David Wagner has agreed to speak instead. His title will be “Sex Life of Pants: Pollination Biology.” Dave will be addressing the plethora of pollination mechanisms deployed by our native flora.

Our group will still meet at 6 PM at Unthank Hall food court (UO Campus) to visit and grab a bite to eat. Offerings include tacos, burgers, sandwiches, pizza, plant-based foods, and snacks. At 6:40 we will walk over to Allen Hall to listen to presentation that starts at 7 PM. The presentation is free, but donations are appreciated.

Trip Report

A group of 13 Obsidians enjoyed a Friday evening on the U of O campus. We met at the Unthank Hall food court to visit and have dinner. There was a wide variety of food choices, everyone found something they liked. After dinner we walked a short distance to hear the Eugene Natural History Society's monthly speaker--Dr. Dave Wagner who gave an informative presentation entitled the "Sex Life of Plants." We learned about how the flowers of willows, larkspur, fire weed, and hazelnut have structures and timing to facilitate pollination by bees.
