Trip Report

Sixteen members and 10 nonmembers went 268 miles in the Santiam valleys in the Sweet Home and Detroit Ranger District looking for Fall Color this year. It was quite a change from the old upper McKenzie Valley with the old "brush ape", Dave Burwell. Once again we were not overwhelmed with color, but did see some new country, and Ewart Baldwin found another massive geologic slide for later study.

The most spectacular view was up a big valley with snowy Mt. Jefferson looming up at the head of it. It is worth a special trip; take your camera; best seen in October and November. It is a massive view.

We ran much later than usual, which was unfortunate, although everyone seemed to like the trip. We arrived back at South Eugene High at 5:45 p.m.! One delay was from the riders that voted to stop at an ice cream store in Brownsville.

Trip leader was Bill Eaton with magnificent assistance from Janice Pattison, on the phone, logging riders, and collecting money.
