Trip Report

The Obsidian bus left the Valley River loading point for a scenic tour of the bright colors along Cal Young Road on our way to the freeway. We took I-5 to Sutherlin, then a by-way along the Umpqua River to Glide. We turned down Little River to Cavitt Creek covered bridge for our morning break. We then returned to Glide and the Colliding Rivers viewpoint. The North Umpqua Scenic Highway was beautiful with a wide variety of colors. We stopped for lunch at the Clearwater Falls. It was a bit nippy, but not raining. Then back to Watson Falls, where those wishing to could hike up from the trailhead to get a better view of the falls. It was beautiful weather for a hike in the woods. We then continued up the highway to the Hwy. 58 junction and returned via Salt Creek Falls and the Oakridge DQ. We took 30th Avenue into town to avoid the Autzen area, taking in a few more of our own fall color trees.
