Description:

We will be hiking a combination of the Woodpecker and Mill hill trails. The focus of this trip is the hike. Feel free to bring binoculars but we will not be stopping at every bird. We will be stopping at head quarters to use bathrooms and have lunch if not to crowded. I will point out good places to stop if you want to also check what birds are in the various ponds. We should still have some wildflowers. Parking area can handle multiple cars. Face coverings a must for shared rides.

Participants will manage their own transportation. Obsidian protocols for social distancing will be observed on the hike. Refer to main website page for information.

Trip Report

Great trip. Noted that some people had prearranged rides prior to trip. I offered my car to take 2. We had windows open to allow for good air flow and we all wore masks. I had also wiped down all hard surfaces with a bleach solution and let car air out. The hike was enjoyed by all. Started with gray sky’s and cooler temperatures. The birds of note were, turkey vultures, acorn woodpeckers and one owl we could not identify. White daisies were the predominate wildflower. Meadows full of them. Lunch at headquarters. We were the only people there. Lots of room to spread out. Very few people on trails. We left around 1 pm and noticed more cars and active. Early dinner stop in Monroe at brew pub. Large area to social distance, good food. I believe this was the first time for most of those in our group to eat out since March. We all loved it.
