Trip Report

The hike began from the Waldo Rd at the Fuji Mt. trailhead and headed to Birthday Lake where we stopped to drink, eat a snack and enjoy the green water of the lake and blue sky above. Temperatures were moderate which made the uphill trek of 2200ft to Fuji Mt comfortable. Fortunately the smoke where we were hiking was moderate and not a problem but as we gazed down on Waldo Lake from the top of the mountain our view of the lake was obscured by smoke hanging at the lower elevations. The surrounding views of the Cascade peaks were not visable either. Despite our limited view we enjoyed the sunshine and green expanse of trees surrounding Fuji Mt. A stop at Verde Lake on the return trip gave everyone a chance to get rested for the final 3 miles back to the cars. A good time was had by all and it was great to take several hikers to the top that had never been there before. Hopefully they can return in the future to catch the beautiful view of Waldo Lake on a clear day.
