Meet at the Masonic Cemetery at 25th and University near the interpretive signs and gate—not at the Abbey.
From there we will walk through the Cemetery to see the snowdrop flowers, then on city streets to the Ribbon Trail, Obsidian Lodge, Hendricks Park and back to our cars. Be prepared for a steady uphill push for the first 30-40 minutes. Bathrooms at the Obsidian Lodge and Hendricks Park. Update: We will only do the hike once —not do it again as in the movie, Groundhog Day. Depending on time, optional lunch at Hey Neighbor pizza.

Trip Report

Yes! We spotted the groundhog on a low tree branch in the Masonic Cemetery. Quietly we watched and took photos. Henry (the Cooper grandchild) and I quietly approached for a for a closer look. When Henry realized the true nature of the groundhog, he held it up and shouted, "It' 's a puppet!" Bamboozled and laughter best describes this wildlife sighting. Henry described it as being pranked. There were so many flowers blooming in the Masonic Cemetery that it was hard to believe that the groundhog's shadow predicated a late spring but it did snow the next morning. Join us next year for the ten annual groundhog hike.
