Description:

We park at Cape Perpetua and start the hike from there. The hike leads up through old growth to the ridge line and return the parking area along Gwen Creek. There is the opportunity to visit visitor center or cross over to Devils Churn. We come and go through Florence.

Trip Report

The first thing to greet us starting up the trail was a beautiful orange gold mushroom standing about 12 inches tall within this glowing cap. We were treated to a large variety of mushrooms along the trail for its entire length. The next thing that got our attention was the number of trees large and small trees that had blown down along the Cook Ridge trail. The first mile was a study in what a powerful wind can do to a landscape. As we got deeper into the forest the fallen trees disappeared just tons of small debris littered the trail. For those who had never hiked this trail the number of large of large old growth trees was the main attraction. We arrived under gray sky’s with no rain for most of the hike. The expected rain held off until the last mile. The serious rain arrived after we got into cars.
