Trip Report

Our day started in the Eugene Target Parking Lot under a cloudy sky, but things quickly improved. Seven hikers caravanned to the coast and we parked our cars at the Cape Perpetua Visitor's center (plenty of parking.) There, we were happy to find a real bathroom, and two additional hikers. We easily located the trailhead at the Visitor Center parking lot, and set out in the forest on the mostly-uphill Cook's Ridge trail, enjoyed our lunch, and returned on the mostly-downhill Gwynn Creek trail. Monkeyflower, foxglove, ferns and wild mushrooms were abundant.
Following our trek, we explored Cape Perpetua's majestic and spectacular coastline on its paved trails, seeing all it is famous for: Spouting Horn, Thor's Well, and Devil's Churn. Most agreed the coastline was the highlight of our day.
On the way home, several of us stopped for coffee at the Old Town Coffee Roasters in Florence where we discussed life, love, and future hikes.
