Trip Report

This trip was designed to do several short hikes on the Upper McKenzie and South Santiam Rivers. Delta Nature Trail has been reopened, and three footbridges provide a nice walk through a nice forest. Koosah and Sahalie Falls and the trail in between them were spectacular as usual. We enjoyed lunch at Clear Lake. Then the Hackleman Loop Trail through a compact grove of several softwood species in various stages of their life cycles was very enjoyable. A visit to House Rock near the old Santiam Wagon Road completed the day in perfect weather. Experience Oregon Bus Company furnished their usual tasty pastries and coffee; driver Will Gaunt did an excellent job in all respects.
