HECETA HEAD, Washburne Park to Heceta Lighthouse

  • Start date: 02/11/2025

  • Start time: 8:45 AM

Description:

Bill Sullivan reviewed this trail at the potluck – starts at Washburne State Park, traverses Hobbit Beach for 1.2 miles, then winds inland up through the forest, over a 500’ hill [steep in spots} and down to the lighthouse. We will do the out & back version so it’s 500’ elevation gain x 2. It’s a lovely hike, and we’ll be rewarded with fine views on a clear coastal day. Be prepared for possible mini “rivers” draining runoff down the beach. Afternoon coffee in Florence. {I did a slightly different version of this hike in December – you can see it on my YouTube channel BUZZIN’ ALONG}

We will meet for this trip at 1418 Quaker St., Eugene
the susgested driver reimbursement is $16.50

Trip Report

On a glorious clear and sunny day on the coast, three of us completed this 6.2 mile out & back trail. The two sections of trail could not be more diverse – the first 1.2 miles was the southward traverse from Washburne State Park across the beach to the Hobbit Trail which then took us 1.9 miles up through the forest and over two rather steep hills, then down to the Heceta Lighthouse. And there we enjoyed lunch, basking in the sun for most of an hour before heading back.
