Trip Report

We walked the Hobbit Beach south and looked at some colorful creatures in the tide pools. We continued on to the head land basalt towers and looked at several geologic structures including joints, faults, anticline folds, shear zones, cross-bedded sandstones, paleosols and landslide deposits. Then up the Hobbit trail and over the hill to the Heceta Head lighthouse where we took a tour. We had to avoid about a dozen major mud bogs on the trail. After lunch, back down to the Hobbit trail and north on the beach to Washburn Park. On the way back we encountered a dead sea lion being dissected by vultures. Mostly sunny weather except for a few sprinkles at the light house.
