Description:

We will drive to Washburn Wayside and start the hike along the beach. Continue up the Hobbitt trail and over to the light house with great views of the Pacific. I believe the lighthouse will be closed. It is run by volunteers. On the return trip we will cross the coast Hwy. pickup the China Creek trail back to the cars.

Trip Report

We had a little winter and a little summer today. 25 mile an hour north wind along with a thick bank of fog impeding our view of the ocean for starters. We past several hikers headed down the Hobbitt trail on the way up. As the group started up the trail to the lighthouse the wind got colder and the fog bank acted more like rain clouds. The trail got slicker with the mud and everything got wet. Not so bad on the south side of ridge. Returning to the highway it was noted that there were cars parked on both sides of the road it was packed. Crossing to the China Creek trail we saw maybe 4 people. Beautiful section of route that everyone enjoyed. By now the sun was out as we returned to packed parking area. 3 of the 5 participants on the hike were new to this loop.
