Trip Report

When I last led this trip in May of 2016 we had both rain and snow and we were totally socked in by the clouds. This trip was a great improvement with lots of sun and a wildflower display that rivals Iron Mountain but without the crowds of people. We departed from the Saddle trailhead which is located about 8 miles down road 1993 from Cougar reservoir Dam. This is a lightly used trail with very few obstructions that switchbacks up to where it intersects the Olallie trail then continues on to Horsepasture. The trail passes through several meadows on it's way to the top which were covered with an amazing variety of wildflowers. After 3.7 miles and, according to my GPS, a 2450 foot climb we reached the rocky summit where we enjoyed our lunch and the 360 degree views.
