Trip Report

The November 18 Potluck at the Lodge was a huge success, with nearly 70 members and friends attending.

The speaker, Robert Thompson, gave a great slide presentation of a two-week solo backpack trip he made in the 1970s. His trip started near Mt. McKinley and ended 211 miles later. Luckily for us, he took many pictures . . . with a self-timer. He knew his facts and distances traveled, although at times, he said, he had trouble figuring out if the picture was looking north or south! (He kept a diary on the back of his maps, which he re-read just before the potluck!)

At the end of Robert’s fascinating presentation, and after tremendous applause, the audience did not get up and leave the Lodge as is usual, but stopped and asked many questions concerning his trip. - Jan Jacobsen
