Trip Report

With a big "thank-you" to Ray Cavagnaro of Bronson Travel and the same to Joe Silence, the able Bronson trip guide, thirty-three Obsidians and friends journeyed by Dorsey bus to Kah-nee-ta by way of Mt. Hood and the Wapinitia. There was a coffee break at Government Camp where the group had huckleberry pie at Huckleberry Inn.

Don Moorhead, the bus driver, turned off Highway 26 near Simasho and drove on down south to the Village where the group arrived around 2 p.m.

There were two planned activities: one by bus up to the very attractive Lodge on the hill for a tour of the facility, and the other an hour's get-together after dinner for fun and games in Jane Hilt's room. Otherwise, the tour members were free to swim, hike, or do nothing.

There was a light snowfall Sunday morning, but it disappeared quickly.

The return trip, starting in the early afternoon, was made by way of Redmond, Sisters, the Santiam, and Clear Lake cutoff. Don drove in at Black Butte and also at Hoodoo Ski Bowl so the group could see some of the activity going on in those places.

It was a beautiful white world in the Mt. Hood and Santiam areas, and fortunately the highway was clear for driving.
