Description:

This will be an easy to moderate paced hike. The trail is uphill with switchbacks before leveling off to traverse the hills leading to the top of Lowder Mtn.. We will pass 3 meadows with occasional views of the Cascades. The final push will be a steep uphill for a 1/2 mile before reaching the top. Arriving at a flat plain we will cross to the East side of Lowder Mtn., where I hope we will have a view of the Cascades.

Trip Report

The weather was just right for our hike up Lowder Mountain. Many wildflowers were in bloom and we could see that there would be considerably more soon. There was no sign of snow at the top. Due to fires starting up just the day before, we were unable to see Mt. Hood. However the closer mountains, Mt. Jefferson to Diamond Peak, were evident and we enjoyed the view. Bill Sullivan was heading up Lowder Mt. just as we were finishing our hike. His book being the information tool for most Obsidian leaders!
