Trip Report

The sun was out and the temperature cool as 23 Obsidians (the 24th joined us at The Adobe) headed out. It was clear, so mountains were everywhere, as were the daffodils and lambs. Spring had sprung. The Alsea Highway was veteran driver Larry Edwards' kind of road and not our usual route. Out coffee stop was in Philomath at MacDonalds. The historic Alsea Bridge Interpretive Center was very interesting. Excellent video on the coastal highway bridges (building of, maintenance of and replacement). The Adobe's drawing card is the gorgeous view of the crashing waves while you enjoy lunch. Nine took the hike north of the Adobe. The coast was sunny and clear and breezy. The sea lions were out sunning themselves on the rocks at Sea Lion Caves. The skunk cabbage was in bloom at the Darlingtonia Gardens. The last stop was at Old Town Florence to shop and/or have ice cream. We lucked out with a very short construction delay on Hwy. 126. The Sisters were very clear as we came into Eugene from Veneta.
