Description:

We'll park at Maiden Peak Trail head #3681 near Gold Lake and hike 5.8 miles to the top of Maiden Peak. It starts with a gentle grade, gets steeper with a stretch of rubble rock near the top. After a break and view, we'll descend 3 miles and go south on the PCT for .7 miles to Maiden Peak Shelter, more relaxing and lunch. The final 3.5 miles will be downhill to the parking lot.
IF SMOKE IS AN ISSUE, I WILL CANCEL OR RESCHEDULE. Fingers are crossed for a good trip day.

Trip Report

This Maiden Peak adventure to the top of the 7818 foot peak involved an incredible and unfortunate view of the large smoke plume north of Waldo Lake. The Cedar Creek fire captured our attention as we watched in awe. The 3000 feet elevation gain in 6 miles kept us resting and grateful for the shady forest and gentle breeze. As a group, we chose to skip the side trip to Maiden Peak Shelter. Instead we drove from the trailhead to Gold Lake to view this area many have only seen under snow. The air was clear with a bit of haze, allowing us to see Diamond Peak, Bailey, Mt Scott (Crater Lake rim), Theilsen, the 3 Sisters, Jefferson and more. It was a glorious place to be!
