Trip Report

Eleven snowshoers carefully crossed Hwy 58 and began our hike up to the two snow-covered Marilyn Lakes. Although there was talk of taking a polar plunge in the small section the ice hadn't covered on one of the lakes, no one jumped in. We then went to Gold Lake and had lunch at the shelter near Gold Lake day use area and boat launch, which is the headwaters of Salt Creek. A light, wet snow had been falling, so most of us ate in the shelter. The shelter was stocked with wood and a maul. The restrooms were unlocked and the snow had been cleared away from the doors. After a brief jaunt up to see Gold Lake, we headed back via Gold Lake Road. As we waited to cross Hwy 58 safely, we waved to the semi trucks driving by and happily got waves and a few horn blasts.
