Trip Report

It began as a memorial cemetery walk when Ginny and Kathleen shared stories by their father's monuments. With Jorry's directions, our next stop was the bog near the golf course where Hugh Pritchard gave us the latest plant update. At the Lodge John Jacobsen and Jim Northrop stopped their grounds work to tell us about the new fence. We appreciated that we could use the bathrooms. We then took the Ribbon Trail loop to see the new housing development and the new Obsidian boundary fence up near 30th. It was a surprise to meet up with Barbara Bruns who was also checking out what was new. Running behind, we opted to skip Hendrichs Park and take Spring Blvd to Fairmount—a Rhododendron Walk. Ginny guided us down to the new Edison School construction where she went to elementary school and where Sandra taught. Three minutes to spare, we made it to the Public Square for Taps. There was even time for the President of the Eugene Masonic Cemetery Association Carolyn Forrell to give us an enthusiastic welcome. Her husband Dick Hildreth is a long time Obsidian member. After Taps, most of us took a peek inside the Hope Abbey. The leaders appreciates everyone contributed for the hike to take a life of its own.
