Description:

This 6 mile mountain pass hike holds it's own with the 14 mile "big boys". We will hike by 2 beautiful swim-able mountain lakes and have a view of the best of Oregon peaks. All are welcome . Fast pace hikers can arrange to add a few extra miles while others relax for a long lunch and swim in South Matthieu Lake. Call if you have questions.

Trip Report

How incredibly lucky we were to escape Eugene's first high 90s heat day with a cool hike upward from McKenzie Pass- 5000-6000 plus feet! There were 4 of us – a perfect car full. Being essentially new acquaintances, we enjoyed sharing our stories as we drove and hiked through the day. After a rest break at North Matthieu Lake, we proceeded on to south Matthieu for lunch and a "refreshing" swim. Although the two lakes are as beautiful as ever, the trail in both directions did not fare as well. Approximately 1/3 of the 6 mile loop suffered severe fire burn from last summer's fire.
