Trip Report

In warm ideal weather at 8:00 a.m. we boarded the Experience Oregon small bus driven by Bud Kloster for the McKenzie Pass Loop. Following a rest stop (pastry and coffee) at the McKenzie Ranger Station, we went up Hwy. 242 to Proxy Falls for a delightful 1½-mile hike to both Lower and Upper Falls through lava beds and forest. On to the reconstructed Dee Wright Observatory at the summit for spectacular views except for the somewhat smoky sky. After lunch in the Sisters City Park we returned via the main road with the next stop at Koosah Falls. We hiked up the McKenzie to Sahallie Falls, where we re-boarded the bus. Lastly, we walked through the Old Growth Nature Trail at Delta Campground and returned to Eugene by 5:30 p.m. Enjoying a very pleasant day in the Cascades were Ethel Allen, Helen Barnard, Sally Bethel, Nicole Chase, Florence Douglas, Bette Hack, Dora Harris, Jean Jensen, Ann Keating, Dodie Leppmann, Cleora Mersdorf, Joyce Fixer, Muriel Parker, Liz Reanier, Paulette Thompson and Harvey Speck (sweep) and Ray Jensen (leader).
