Description:

This is my third year of leading this long but rewarding hike. We'll start at the upper trailhead near Fish Lake and hike the entire 25.9 miles in one day. The hike will maintain a brisk pace all day with a minimum number of short stops. As this hike will take all day please don't plan on getting back to Eugene before dark.. This in a one-way hike that involves a car shuttle. Please note the meeting place is at the Thurston Park & Ride which is next to McDonalds, not behind it.

Trip Report

We started our hike at the upper trailhead near Fish Lake at about 7:30 am with a welcome overcast sky. Our early start gave us the trail to ourselves for the first nine miles until we reached Tamolitch Pool. After Tamolitch we encountered the occasional hiker, trail runner, and mountain biker but over the 26 miles of this trail we still had the trail to ourselves for the majority of the time. We finished this long hike at around 4:30 with a few blisters and tired muscles. As always this trail is a beautiful shaded river hike perfect for hot summer days.
