Trip Report

On Sunday morning the weather looked doubtful with low clouds and misting. At 6:45 a.m. we decided to start on the way up for at least an hour or two. At about the 8000 foot level we climbed out of the hazy weather and into blue, sunny skies. The Collier Glacier Route was very easy because the snow was packed and firm to walk on. We made good time all the way to the saddle. Then the going got tough; we found no snow on the North Face route to the summit, just lots and lots of loose scree. This was very difficult to negotiate but we all persevered and summit certificates were passed out and the Obsidian Summit Log signed. There was a lot of glissading and having fun in the snow coming down. A good climb with exceptional beauty above the low flying clouds. Enjoying this climb were John Cecil, Emmy Dale, Tom and Linda Griffin, Wilbur Groner, Elizabeth Harmon, Dick Hildreth, Liz Igl, Joe Lowry, Betty Legris, Susan Meyer, Henrietta Richmond, Michel "Mike" Wright, and leader Parker Riddle.
