Trip Report

The weather was fair and warm Saturday and Sunday and trail conditions were excellent with very little dust. Arrowhead Lake, our campsite, was a foot and one-half below normal water line with a remaining depth of two feet maximum.

The climb followed Collier glacier to the saddle and then up the north ridge. Notable on Sunday was the large amount of smoke, evidently from southern Oregon forest fires, which obscured the view. The South Sister was visible as well as The Husband, but Mt. Jefferson was entirely obscured except for the pinnacle visible just above the smoke layer. Mt. Washington was very faintly visible within the smoke. White Branch Creek was dry at its intersection with Glacier Way Trial on Sunday, whereas on Saturday it still had a small flow.

A nice climb and an unusual view with the smoke was experienced by Michael Cooper, Ed Lovegren and John Englehart, leader.
