Trip Report

Five dubious Obsidians started from Frog Camp on Saturday, September 3 in pouring rain to climb the Middle Sister. It continued to rain to varying degrees throughout the day. Had we not been carrying the ashes of Colin Macdonald and a commitment to Ken Ball to ferry out the extra gear for his group’s attempt to climb all three Sisters over Labor Day weekend, I might have called this climb off. But we slogged on in and met Ken’s party on the last leg into Sunshine. As they were headed out, now that they knew we would carry out equipment, three of that group returned to treeline with us. Needless to say, we had a cool, wet camp Saturday night. While I and two others ate and crawled into our tents to warm up, Josh and Anne had the extra energy to sit up with Ken’s party and play Hearts until dark!

Sunday dawned clear and cool, a perfect day for climbing. We accomplished our mission, scattering Colin’s ashes on Middle Sister, and carrying out the extra climbing gear for Ken’s party the following day. Climbers were Josh Ladau, Mike Landes, Anne McLucas, Bill Montgomery and Jane Hackett. (leader).
