Trip Report

Our group of five climbers camped on Saturday at Arrowhead Lake. At 6 a.m. the next morning we started for the summit of Middle Sister via the Renfrew Glacier. I have climbed Middle Sister seven or eight times, but never have I seen the Glacier looking so bare. Halfway up there is usually a great glissade drop on the descent; this year a rock band extended almost all the way across. As we were climbing the ridge to the summit, in a spot that is usually under snow, we dislodged a rock about the size of a refrigerator that barely missed two of our climbers below it. Despite this near miss, we reached the top at 9, about 3 hours after leaving camp. We lounged on top for a while as the weather was delightful. Climbing Middle Sister were Dave Chapman, Kim Chapman, Wayne Deeter (assistant leader), Andy Jobanek, and George Jobanek (leader). <img border="2" src="images/d20030727-0425.jpeg" width="640" height="480">
