Trip Report

The group left the Obsidian trailhead just before noon under a sunny sky with light clouds and warm temps. We arrived at Arrowhead Lake right about 4 p.m. After setting up camp, we had a little look around the area before having dinner. It clouded over and series of rain showers continued for most of the night. By our start at 6 a.m., the mountain was visible with overcast just above it. We climbed the rock and scree slope to the east of the lake to about 8500 ft. and then traversed east across the Collier Glacier almost to the Col between North and Middle Sister. The group then went south along a level ridge to the saddle between the top of the Hayden and Renfrew Glaciers. From here we just had to climb up the north ridge to the summit. Since this is a low snow year this ridge was mostly scree with no snow on it. In fact, except for the large permanent snow fields and glaciers, we encountered no snow at all. The summit was reached at 10:20 a.m. Soon after our arrival, cloud cap moved in and we had wind and cold back down to the saddle. We descended the Renfrew in sun with no wind to just above the lake and arrived back in camp at 1:30 p.m., then back at the trailhead just after 5 p.m.
