Trip Report

After a short break at the skillet, our group of six were ready for the trail from Frog Camp at 2:30 Friday afternoon. By 5, we were at our campsite well above Sunshine Meadow. Very little snow remained in the area and White Branch Creek at the lava flow was dry. Lots of water in Sister Springs where we filled up in preparation for our dry camp a little way up toward Collier Glacier. Not too many people today but Sunshine Meadow, Obsidian Falls and the Arrowhead Lake area are much overcamped. In the future I will find another campsite.

Up at 8 Saturday and on our way to the top of Collier for camp and afternoon climb of Middle at 9. We were on the summit at 2, and back to camp at 4, where we met the two persons from our group who came in a day late.

Very windy and cold Sunday at 5 a.m. so slept a couple of more hours and started up North at 7:30. On reaching the snow-less dinner plate area, one climber took one look and headed for camp. The rest were on the top at 10:30. Weather warm and windless. All were belayed down the chute; the leader by a friendly climber on the way up. Back at camp at 1:00 and to cars at 4:30. A great week-end.

Those camping at 9000 ft., climbing two mountains, hiking 14 miles, enjoying great weather and good company were: Ingrid Kircher, Rich Litchfield, Frank Day, Randy Bridges, Mike Northrop, Steve Healy, Tom Whipp and leader Lee Hatch.
