Minto Pass from Jack Lake

  • Start date: 08/19/2024

  • Start time: 7:00 AM

Description:

Help the leader with his notion (fantasy) to eventually hike all the trails in the Jefferson Wilderness. One gap I have is the Minto Pass Trail the comes up from Marion Lake, crosses the PCT and then meets the Wasco Lake trail coming up from Jack Lake. I imagine a number of you have been to that spot on the PCT, to Marion Lake, and Canyon Creek Meadows. And there's more to explore as the PCT heads north. I'm sure will will have time to look at the map and talk about other routes in this area. Depending on people's interests, time, etc. there are a few options that might add another mile or two. But maybe a dip in Wasco lake would be preferred.
Passengers please remember the suggested driver reimbursement is $22

Trip Report

We started our hike from the Jack Lake trailhead heading north, passing the junctions to Canyon Creek Meadows, and snacking on huckleberries. When we we reached Wasco Lake, we took a break before heading up the short, steep trail to Minto Pass. Here we met the first of several PCT through-hikers. At this point she had covered 2,012 miles from Mexico and was looking forward to her next resupply at Olallie Lake in "only" 36 miles. We found an open, view-filled spot on the PCT for lunch and met more through-hikers from both the US and Europe on this segment. After returning to Wasco Lake we explored a trail that took us to Minto Lake. Then it was back to the main trail and a few more huckleberries as we made our way back to Jack lake. It was good to get out of town with good company, good weather, and a good trail.
