Mt Pisgah Sunset/Moonrise (long)

Description:

This is a long hike to backside of Pisgah–It takes two hours and 15 minutes at a moderate space to get to the top!. The timing is good for us to see both if weather cooperates. The sunset is 4:35 and moonrise is 4:24. The full moon is the next day. We will take Trail 7 to Trail 4 DOWN to Trail 2 and then up 800 ft elevation on the east side. Look for us by my car, one or two rows down from the fee box. Email me at jbjacobsen@comcast.net if you have questions. If it is raining, we can opt for a shorter hike.

Trip Report

"There it is!" we shouted when we saw the first glimmer of the moon farther to the north than we anticipated. Meanwhile the blinding sun was setting behind us. It was such a colorful and joyous experience for all who gathered to watch while social distancing. It seemed like a chilly summer evening except that we wearing our warmest coats. Back at the trailhead, one could see three planets. It was one of the best sunset and moonrise events—unexpected for a November outing. The parking lot was filled (all three levels) but we met very few hikers.
