Description:

The climb up Mt Hubris is a multi-pitch rock climb (rated 5.6) on beautiful granite. We will be rising early for the steep approach then reaching the summit in the early afternoon. To get off the mountain we will do two rappels, then hike back out and drive home.

  • Supplies and Equipment Required: A backpack large enough to carry group gear, but small enough that you can climb with it. You will also need rock shoes, harness, helmet, 2 personal anchors, 3 locking carabiners, and a belay/rappel device. More information will be provided to those who sign up.

Trip Report

Six strong Obsidian climbers scaled the beautiful Mount Hubris in the Castle Crags State Park of Northern California on Sat, Oct 7. We got an early start (up at 4 AM and on the trail by 5:15 AM) to hike in the 3 mile, 2200 ft approach to the climb. After a mile or so in the dark one of the team members shouted up to me that she saw headlamps behind her. This struck fear in us that there would be another party to compete with for starting the climb. We hurried along. After a little while it was evident that the headlamps weren't moving and were actually lights from the campground below. Whew, we could slack the pace a little. Once on the climb, the 3 rope teams of 2 climbers sailed effortlessly to the glorious summit. We had a relaxed hike out. Another perfect day on Mt Hubris.
