Description:

We will drive up to end of the road to Mt Adam's "Cold Springs" and hike up to the tree line and set up camp. We will probably be camping on snow. Get up early climb up Sunday morning to the top and then Slide down !!!!!.

Trip Report

We met at the Tualatin REI around noon Saturday May 16th and then drove on up to the trail head at Cold Springs on the South side of Mt Adams.The road was in good shape and only one little snow bank in the parking lot remained. We loaded up our packs and headed up the trail and soon were walking on snow and dodging the skiers coming off the mountain. The snow was rather soft so were were sinking in a bit with our full packs. I, not being in good shape camped at 8000 feet and Benedikt and Richard went on up and camped at the lunch counter. That night the wind pick up and clouds moved in. The top 2500 feet of the mountain was socked in. Wind was about 25-30 mph. I stopped at 10,000 feet and had a good lunch. Richard and Benedikt went on up to the top using their GPS. Visibility was zero and light to moderate winds. They reported seeing the prayer flags on top! The trip down was fast as usual and we were back at the cars by 1:00 p.m. and drove home safely.
