Trip Report

Leaving Eugene at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, we headed in three cars for a rendezvous at the Timberline parking lot. We set up camp at the edge of the parking lot to get an earlier start Sunday morning. This was a mixed advantage since rowdy, noisy night skiers kept us awake until after midnight.

Sunday morning a thick crust on the snow made skiing difficult, so we stashed our slats at the top of the Magic Mile and put on crampons at that point. Time to the summit was 7½ hours. Somewhat slow, but we attributed this to the long distance the group had to travel on crampons. The consensus of the group was that this was one of the better Mt. Hood climbs. The weather was reasonably good, the group congenial. Everyone got up and down without any real problems. Making the climb were Neil Hicks, Guru Bandu Khalsa, Luke Lonnquist, Mike McClellan, Lynn Monsanto, Terry Smith and leader Jack Nitzel.
