Trip Report

The party assembled at 4:00 a.m. in front of the climbers registration shack. There was a full moon and the mountain was readily visible in the moonlight. As we started up the snow, the warm air became apparent as we shed clothes and sank in the soft snow. Three of our party turned back at Silcox Hut. We continued up the mountain and could see many parties ahead of us snaking up the mountain. There was a small bridge across the crevasse on the hogsback and we had to wait for descending parties to cross before we could go on up. Because of the warm temperature there was some thawing and several pieces of ice came down thru the chute. All were on top by 11:30 a.m. We met Sam Miller and Bert Ewing on top. They had just completed climbing the Sandy Headwall route. They assisted one of our party down the Hogsback. (Thank you very much.) We were all at the lodge by 4:00 p.m. Climbers were William Bronson, Judy Carmody, Tim Cook, Emmy Dale, Roger Goodwin, Gary Bretencort, Jane Hackett, Dot Leland, Ralph Nafziger, Henrietta Richmond, Kevin and Parker Riddle, Gene & Tammy Thaxton, Pat and leader Randy Zustiak.
