Trip Report

We all arrived at the Pamelia Lake trailhead at around noon on Saturday. Started hiking up the trail at a good clip, and arrived at Shale Lake around 6:00 p.m. As we set up our tents a light rain started. It rained all evening and when I got up at 1:00 a.m. it was still raining. At 2:00 a.m. the rain stopped and the rest of the party got up, and we were hiking up the ridge at 3:00 a.m. After getting lost the usual 12 times, we all got on the ridge and were on the Red Saddle at 7:15 a.m. Ray Smith turned back earlier with blister trouble. Took a half hour to eat lunch, and then set up a two-rope length line across the snowfield. From there we all climbed to the summit using just one belay point. Stayed on top for a half hour. The weather was cool, breezy with very few clouds. The rain evidently took care of all the poor weather. Started back down the pinnacle, took up all the ropes, and were headed down from the Red Saddle at 10:30 a.m. Arrived at Shale Lake, packed up and hiked out to the cars. Drove to Marion Forks and all, had a cool drink. Arrived in town at around 9:00 p.m. in time to catch the end of Becky Bascom's wedding reception. Those on the climb were Ray Smith, George Jobaneck, Barbara Mickel, Ed Lovegren, Heather Anderson and your multitalented and humble leader, Kevin McManigal.
