Trip Report

We all met at the South Eugene parking lot at 10:00 a.m. From there we drove to the Pamelia Lake road, drove up the road where the leader had a flat tire, and parked at the parking lot at the trailhead. Started hiking at 1:00 p.m. into Pamelia Lake, and went into Hunts Cove on the old trail; hiked out of Hunts Cove and walked cross-country toward Shale Lake. But the leader forgot the way and went the wrong way for a half mile, but we eventually got to Shale Lake and got a good dinner, and went to bed. Got up at 3:00 a.m., started up mountain at 4:30 a.m. via Goat Peak. Arrived at the Red Saddle at 10:30. From there we traversed a two-rope length snow field that was very steep, and climbed the north peak, and were on the summit. Climbed back down, crossed the snow field, hiked down the ridge, and arrived at Shale Lake at 8:30 p.m. At this point Becky Beaman, Ron Whisler, Larry, Dave and Jeff Cash had to hike out in order to be back to work Monday morning. Bobby Moffitt, Dave Lewinsohn, Mike Newman and leader Kevin McManigal stayed at Shale Lake and hiked out Monday morning. The hike out was very nice going through Pamelia Lake and looking at the girls.
