Trip Report

When the date was picked for the climb the leader did not know that it would be the weekend of the Eugene Celebration. That was probably a factor in having a small sign-up for the climb. It was great climbing weather and five of us enjoyed a good climb in the cool of the morning. After car camping, at the trailhead, we started the climb at 6:15 am. We kept the party together to within 15 minutes of the summit, then did the final assault according to our individual abilities. Chris & Truman made it before 10 am. Judy & Lang made it about 10 a.m. and the leader straggled up at 10:15. After an hour of rest with good clear views in all directions we headed down and reached the cars at 1:35 p.m. The five speedy Obsidians were Chris & Truman Grandy, Judy & Larry Smith, and Wes Prouty, leader. P.S: If you climb McLoughlin and find "WES '92" painted on a summit rock, it was not our doing. It was there when we got there.
