Trip Report

I feel badly about what happened and I apologize to all who believed me when I believed Lane County Parks. You see, they said Pisgah would be open the next day, not the day of the hike. So, I cancelled the hike about 4 hours beforehand. I go out to tell people that the hike was cancelled, but when I got to the trailhead, the sign said "Use with Caution". People were coming and going. When seven other people showed up, there was....well, no way I can cancel an Obsidian hike when the reason for cancellation was no longer applicable. I made it a non-counting Obsidian hike, since we had a chance to do it even though it had been cancelled. We went up in heavy 36 degree fog. Near the top, we broke through and had a clear skies on top, cold and windy. We had great views of The Sisters and Diamond Peak, even seeing Mt. Moran. The Sun set where it was supposed to, into the fog. We came back down, seeing far less damage than in Eugene, although one tree at the junction of trail #3 looked like it got hit several times by lightning. People went for pizza afterward; I went home. After cutting trees on the trail to Fox Hollow all morning, I was beat. The group, which included a board member and a committee chair, said this would be an Obsidian Hike, so here is the report, duly submitted. My apologies for those who were told it was cancelled. It was, by one group, but not another.
