Trip Report

The group initially met at the trailhead at 8:00 a.m. and were on our way by 8:15. A perfect day for a climb - warm enough for shorts yet cool enough to be comfortable. All snow had been melted away some time ago so mosquitos were our constant companions throughout the timbered area. A steady pace put us at the rope-up area at 11:30. Lunch was eaten as a belay rope was anchored and everyone was on the summit by 12:15. For at least some of us the highlight of the day was watching and aiding some non-climbers get off the summit, and the observing of the latest in climbing attire - a kinki looking G string type of shorts (or underwear?) that more or less covered the subject, worn by a man who matched the attire. After "playing" around the summit area for a couple of hours, we raced back to the cars as we played "try-to-keep-up-with-Gary." For Rich and Jan this was their first summit where they had to do some rock scrambling. For Gary Kirk, this was his twentieth time to summit Thielsen but his first with the Obsidians. On the climb were Rich and Jan Anselmo, Joe Clark, Al Gemmell, Gary Kirk, Fred Mallery, and Bud Proctor, leader.
