Description:

This is a graduation climb for participants in the Basic Mountaineering class; people who took this class have first rights to places on this trip. We will car camp at the trailhead Friday night, and climb the standard route Saturday. The last 60 vertical feet is technical rock.

Trip Report

After rescheduling uncountable times due to weather, and doing a small group on July 4th, we finally had a big group go. We camped Friday night at the North Crater (PCT) trailhead. This is nicer than the Mt. Thielsen trailhead as it’s further off the highway. A 4am wakeup call had us starting our hike as 5:15. We were all on the summit by 10am. Hazy air limited our views to McLoughlin (barely) in the south and the Sisters in the north. We rounded out our trip with a stop for dinner at the brew pub in Oakridge.
