Description:

Mt Washington is a super fun climb with three pitches (rope lengths) of vertical-ish climbing, then three pitches of rappelling including a free hanging rappel back to flat ground. The approach is also a partial loop allowing for new scenery on the way down.
This will be a minimum of a 12 hour day. Comfort with rock climbing skills and exposure, plus being in mountain climbing shape are crucial for this climb.

Trip Report

Best climb I've ever lead for the Obsidians. We started at about 4am. It was raining at the trailhead and had been raining all night. As we hiked towards the ridge, the entire group was dubious that we would make the summit that day--everything was wet. We thought there was no way the rock would be dry enough to climb.
Then about 6:30am we gained the ridge and the sun was rising at the same time. It was magical. The sky was pink and everything was dry. We had hiked above the clouds. We all stood there in awe watching the sunrise and realizing we were going to get to climb.
There were six of us on the climb that day including Marge as the most awesome of assistants, Claudia, Laura, Mikel, Eric, and Jon. All six of us summited. Car to car was 12 1/2 hours. The weather turned out to be cool and sunny. We saw one party of two, otherwise we had the mountain to ourselves. I think the rainy morning kept the crowds away.
