Trip Report

The plan for this climb of Mt. Washington was to camp well up the North ridge and climb on Saturday evening and sleep late Sunday with an unhurried trip to the cars in the afternoon. We arrived at a suitable campsite at 2:00 p.m. and started for the summit about 3:00. We arrived at the base of the pinnacle at 4:00 and soon had the rope secure at the top of the first pitch. After belaying the first man up, the leader, on the next two attempts to throw the rope down, managed to get it tightly hung up in the rocks half way down. After this delay, belaying the others up, fixing hand lines to the summit and all climbing, we were all up by 6:30 p.m. After climbing down, rappelling and coiling ropes, managed to get back to camp a little before dark. Up late Sunday, and a cool swim in Big Lake completed a fine weekend for Larry and Dave Cash, Barry Johnson, Tony Smith and leader Lee Hatch.
