Description:

NOTE: Due to BPA work by the power lines at Mt. Pisgah the sunrise solstice hike will take place at Spencer's Butte this year. Meet at the Spencer Butte main trailhead a little before 7:00 AM, we will depart promptly at 7:00 AM. We will go up the main trail to see the sunrise from the top at 7:44 AM. Hopefully the weather will allow us to see the sun rising over the snowy Cascades!

Trip Report

As much of Eugene slept, eight energetic Obsidians braved (cheerfully) rain and wind to pursue sunrise on top of Spencer’s Butte. Although we didn’t see the sun our spirits remained high. The atmosphere on top was festive as several like-minded groups made the trek to celebrate the solstice. An opening in the clouds to the southeast foreshadowed the return of light.
