Description:

We will be hiking up to the former lookout site atop Mt June, which provides an unimpeded panorama from the Willamette Valley to the Three Sisters. A short hike that offers amazing views.

Trip Report

Five Obsidians and a guest set off promptly at 9:00 for the Mount June trailhead southeast of Cottage Grove. Constant rain, combined with blowdowns and rock slides on the Forest Service Road provided some excitement. The trail was short but steep, and littered with fawn lilies, trillium, oxalis, and other wildflowers. We diverted from the main trail briefly to see what, on a different day, would have been a spectacular view of the coast range to the west, but on this day was a nearly complete whiteout. We persevered to the top, where the old fire tower footings are still visible, and the view would be to the east, but not today. We did not linger at the top, but scurried down to enjoy some Oreo cookies in celebration of Ane's birthday.
