Mt Pisgah Summer Solstice

  • Start date: 06/20/2017

  • Start time: 12:00 AM

  • End date: 06/20/2017

  • End time: 11:59 PM

Description:

This will be an early morning hike to avoid conflict with the Explora Talk at the lodge at 7:00pm and a Summer solstice celebration at the Museum of Culture and History Sunset from 4:00-7:00. My latest plan is to take the Cedar Trail to see the new interpretative installation and then up to #35 and take 3 over to south side to the summit. On top we will have a pastry or snack-- whatever that means. People will have the option of going back on the main trail or going with me to take #2 and #24 to # 4 for a longer hike. It will be in the shade! I'm not sure about the mileage or elevation but plan on 2 1/2 hours.

Trip Report

With soaring temperatures predicted, all of us appreciated the refreshing 7:00 AM start time for the longest day of the year. We took the Incense Cedar Trail to see the new interactive nature exhibit and then made our way to the top avoiding trails with overflowing poison oak and grass. At the sighting pedestal we celebrated the solstice with carrot muffins overflowing with fresh strawberry sauce.
